Privacy Policy

Last updated: 27 July 2026. This policy explains what information Shirikiana (operated by Delroca Springs Limited) collects through shirikiana.co.ke, how we use it, and the choices you have.

1. Who We Are

Shirikiana is operated by Delroca Springs Limited, registered in Kenya. Shirikiana promotes youth inclusion in cooperative-based enterprises, trains young people as potential members, connects them with cooperatives and allied clients, undertakes action research, and publishes research findings and handbooks to strengthen values-based cooperatives.

2. Information We Collect

We collect only what we need to respond to you and run this site:

  • Contact and partnership forms — your name, organisation, email address, area of interest, and message, when you write to us via the Partners, Get Involved, or Contact pages.
  • Newsletter sign-up — your email address, if you choose to subscribe for updates on training, research, and job opportunities.
  • Handbook orders — when you buy a handbook by bank transfer or MPESA, we ask for the details needed to confirm your payment and send your download link (such as your name and email, and a payment reference). We do not collect or store your card, mobile money PIN, or banking credentials — payments are made directly through your bank or MPESA, not through this website.
  • Basic technical data — standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type, and pages visited) collected automatically by WordPress and our hosting provider for security and site performance.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information above to:

SERVICE DELIVERY
  • Respond to your enquiry or partnership proposal
  • Send the handbook or resource you have paid for
  • Send newsletter updates, only if you signed up for them
SECURITY & IMPROVEMENT
  • Keep the site secure and working correctly
  • Understand, in general terms, how the site is used so we can improve it

We do not use your data to make automated decisions about you, and we do not sell your personal data to anyone.

4. Cookies

This site uses a small number of cookies needed for it to function — for example, to remember that you are logged in as an administrator, or to support basic caching for faster page loads.

We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

If we add analytics or other optional cookies in the future, we will update this policy and ask for consent where required.

5. Who We Share Information With

We do not sell or rent your personal data. We may share limited information with:

  • Service providers who help us run this site or send email (such as our hosting provider and email delivery service), each bound to protect your data.
  • Partner organisations you have explicitly asked us to connect you with (for example, if you ask to be introduced to a specific cooperative or freelancer).

We do not share your data with anyone else without telling you first.

6. How Long We Keep Your Information

Enquiry and partnership messages: as long as needed to respond and maintain a record of the relationship.

Newsletter addresses: for as long as you stay subscribed.

You can ask us to delete your data at any time — see “Your Rights” below.

7. Your Rights

Under the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019, and similar laws that may apply to you, you have the right to:

  • Access — ask what personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate data.
  • Deletion — ask us to delete your data.
  • Withdrawal — withdraw consent, unsubscribe at any time.
  • Objection — object to how we use your data.

To exercise any of these rights, email info@shirikiana.co.ke and we will respond as promptly as we can.

8. Children’s Privacy

Shirikiana’s workshops and cooperative programmes are largely aimed at young people, including those who may be under 18. Where we knowingly collect data from a minor — for example, workshop registration — we do so with appropriate care and, where required, guardian involvement. This website itself is not directed at young children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 through the site’s forms.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as Shirikiana grows — for example, as we add new tools, partners, or payment options. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will always reflect the latest version. If a change is significant, we will highlight it on this page.

10. Contact Us

Questions about this policy or your data are welcome, or reach us through our Contact page.

Shirikiana

Shirikiana —> to work with one another. The founding values of the cooperative movement, self-help, self-responsibility and solidarity, remain the most practical basis for collective enterprise. We join knowledge, applied action and ethical responsibility in member-owned, member-governed enterprise, guided by the International Cooperative Alliance’s principle of concern for community. We proceed incrementally, attribute every partner by name, and distinguish demonstrated capacity from stated intent.

We work from the conviction that people grow their capacity through collective effort — and that light is meant to be put to work.
